THOMAS BOLTON HUDSON

Bolton Hudson was born in 1742 in Kendal in Westmoreland, was apprenticed to a wealthy grocer, founded a highly successful grocers/merchant business, married above himself, invested unwisely in a Welsh iron mine and went bankrupt, became chief accountant to a London prison, rose to be steward or governor of the prison, apparently made a second fortune from being the chief supplier of food to his prison, bought Camilla Cotttage/Lacey, retired there and died in 1820.

This link gives a detailed background to Bolton Hudson unearthed by a relation Mark Hudson.
